Five post-purchase upsell offers that actually convert
A blank post-purchase page is a missed opportunity, but a badly chosen offer is worse. Here are five offer types that consistently earn their place in the post-purchase moment, and why they land.
1. The consumable refill
If what they bought runs out, offer a second or a subscription. It is the easiest yes because the need is obvious and the customer already trusts the product.
2. The bundle completer
Bought the camera? Offer the memory card. Bought the boots? Offer the protector spray. Completers feel helpful rather than salesy because they make the first purchase work better.
3. The small impulse add-on
A low-price extra that is easy to justify at the moment of buying. Because it ships in the same parcel with no extra shipping, the value is obvious.
4. The upgrade
Offer the larger size, the premium version or the multi-pack at a one-time price. Some customers will happily trade up once they have already committed.
5. The exclusive, time-boxed deal
A price only available right now, on this page, with a countdown. Scarcity works here precisely because the customer is already in a buying state of mind.
Test, then keep the winners
Set two or three of these live, watch take rate per offer, and retire the ones that do not pull their weight. Small, relevant, one-tap offers win.
