How to raise average order value without touching your ad budget

1 Jul 2026 · 5 min read · Storeloop team

There are two ways to grow revenue: win more orders or make each order worth more. Most stores pour money into the first and ignore the second, even though lifting order value costs almost nothing and works on traffic you have already paid for.

The cheapest growth is on orders you already have

You have paid to acquire the customer and they have already bought. Increasing what that order is worth carries no new acquisition cost, which is why it flows almost entirely to profit.

The post-purchase lever

A one-click post-purchase upsell is the simplest way to lift order value. Merchants typically see a 10–15% increase in revenue per order after adding one, and because the add-on ships in the same parcel, there is no extra shipping to erode the gain.

Doubling ad spend is hard and expensive. Adding 10–15% to every order is a setting you turn on once.

Stack the tactics

  • One-click offers straight after payment for impulse add-ons
  • Thank-you page pairings that complement the purchase
  • Order-status reminders for replenishment

Protect the experience

Higher order value should never mean a pushier checkout. Keep offers relevant and one-tap, and the customer experiences them as helpful, not aggressive. Done well, raising AOV and keeping shoppers happy are the same project.
